When making decisions for your personal growth and fulfilment, it is essential to consider factors ensuring that your final choice aligns with your goals, values, and personal circumstances. Each decision needs to be, should be context-specific and aligned to your longer-term vision.
Remember: Decisions can be made through logic and emotion either or and maybe a combination of both
Now that is not generally words I would use as in ‘needs to be’ and ‘should be’ and it is so very easy to be taken of track of your bigger vision and be attracted by shiny object syndrome.
Although of course, some decisions need to be made in the moment for the moment there is a difference and a reality check to be had when you make in the moment decisions that hinder your longer-term vision.
This is the 4th article in this short series on decision-making 4/4
Here are some key considerations:
- Personal Values: Reflect on your core values and principles. Consider how each option aligns with these values and whether it supports your overall sense of integrity and fulfilment. If you do not know what your core values are please reach out and I will send you an exercise
- Goals and Objectives: Clarify your short-term and long-term goals. Evaluate how each option contributes to your aspirations and helps you progress toward achieving what you desire. If you are unsure what your long term Vision is please look at my book Goal setting for Change on and
- Needs and Priorities: Identify your needs and prioritise them. Assess how each option fulfils your needs and whether it addresses your most important requirements effectively. Take into account your preferences, desires, and aspirations.
Remember: needs and wants are different
- Self-Assessment: Reflect on your strengths, weaknesses, skills, and capabilities. Evaluate how each option plays to your strengths, supports your growth, and accommodates any challenges you may have. We have to live in the world of reality, we are not going to be good at everything and I know you can find someone to support you to do the bits you currently can’t and maybe never need to.
- Potential Consequences: Think about the potential outcomes and consequences of each option. Consider both the positive and negative impacts on various aspects of your life, such as relationships, finances, career, health, and overall well-being.
- Risk Tolerance: Assess your willingness to take risks. Determine the level of uncertainty or potential drawbacks associated with each option and evaluate your comfort level in managing those risks. Remember comfort zones have to grow and not at the risk of putting yourself into the panic zone. Fear can be an enabler and a hinderer
- Intuition and Gut Feelings: Trust your instincts and listen to your intuition. Pay attention to your gut feelings about each option and consider whether it aligns with your inner sense of what feels right for you.
- Emotional Well-being: Consider the emotional impact of each option. Evaluate how it makes you feel, whether it brings you joy, peace, satisfaction, or triggers negative emotions or conflicts.
- Timing and Practicality: Consider the practical aspects and timing of each option. Consider whether it is feasible and realistic within your current circumstances, resources, and available time frame.
- Long-Term Perspective: Consider the potential long-term implications of your decision. Assess whether it is sustainable and supports your overall growth, happiness, and well-being in the future.
Remember: decision-making is a personal process, and what works for one person may not work for another.
Trust yourself, gather relevant information, and use these considerations as a guide to make choices that align with your integrity-led authentic self and support your journey.
