When embarking on the exciting journey of entrepreneurship, understanding the power of branding is essential to your success. I have been around in circles on this one over the years and am now firmly in one branding element as my primary.
This will be especially helpful for individuals new to the self employed/entrepreneurial market
Now, of course, as much as this is an article for new entrepreneurs it is relevant for you and your reputation wherever you are in your life. It is as important when you are employed as it is if you are working for yourself
I learnt this lesson initially in my teens when I was mucking about at a bus stop in school uniform, and the next day I was called into the headmistress’s office as a prefect had seen me. I was told I was bringing the schools reputation into disrepute (or words to that effect). Now, I didn’t at the time know that was about branding, and with hindsight and now knowing this ‘stuff’, of course, it was.
A strong brand helps you differentiate yourself in the market and allows you to connect with your audience on a deeper level. In the instance above my uniform was the brand.
For newcomers to the business world, it’s important to recognise the differences between:
- Product brand,
- Business brand, and
- Personal brand.
By cultivating all three, you’ll be well on your way to carving out a lasting and meaningful presence in your industry & by picking 1 you will start somewhere with the information; there are 2 more to consider.
Even when you are working for a company, the 3 will be vitally important to understand & if you want to advance in your career think in advance of the brand you are creating for you.
Product Brand: Crafting an Unforgettable Experience
Your product brand is the distinct identity that sets your offering apart from competitors. It’s the sum of the unique features, benefits, and emotions that customers associate with your product.
When you create a product brand, you’re telling a story that resonates with your target audience and draws them in to experience the value you provide.

- Identifying and showcasing the features that make your product unique and valuable.
- Establishing a consistent and memorable visual identity, including your logo, packaging, and design. Colours all have meanings so please think what they say about you the product and the
- Eliciting emotions that reflect the essence of your product and connect with your audience.

Business Brand: Building Trust and a Lasting Legacy
Your business brand is the overall perception of your company, encompassing its mission, values, and culture. It’s how your business is perceived by both your customers and the wider public. A strong business brand is crucial for establishing trust, credibility, and a lasting legacy.
To create an impactful business brand, consider:
- Defining your mission and purpose, articulating why your company exists and what it aims to achieve.
- Aligning your values and culture with your target audience’s expectations, ensuring your business is an ethical and trustworthy partner.
